Sometimes you don’t need a long holiday. You just need to leave the city behind, slow down, breathe in some country air and let someone else take care of you for a while.
Spring is one of our favourite times at Te Karaka Station & Lodge. The paddocks are green, the days are getting longer, and the farm is full of new life. And being within easy reach of Auckland, an overnight Escape with Spa treatment and Farm Tour can feel like a proper escape without taking days off work or spending half the weekend travelling.
Here’s what the perfect spring getaway at Te Karaka could look like.
12:30 pm — Arrive and leave the city behind
Make your way south from Auckland and watch the scenery gradually change from motorways and suburbs to rolling farmland and quiet country roads.
By 2:00pm, you’re arriving at Te Karaka.
Check into your room, put down the bags and, most importantly, stop looking at the clock. For the next 24 hours, there’s nowhere else you need to be.
3:00pm — Start with a little indulgence
Ease into the afternoon with some time at our day spa.
After a busy week, there are few better ways to switch into holiday mode. Take your time, relax and allow the pace of the countryside to work its magic.
This isn't a weekend for rushing.
Check with our team in advance about availability and treatments. You can also check our Events to see when our spa therapist is onsite. Booking is essential.
5:30 pm — Drinks, a view and absolutely nothing to do
After your spa treatment, settle in with a drink and enjoy the Lodge and its surroundings.
Spring afternoons at Te Karaka are made for slowing down. Find a comfortable spot, take in the views across the farm, have a conversation that isn't interrupted by emails, or simply sit quietly for a while.
Doing nothing is very much part of the itinerary.
6:30 pm — Dinner at the Lodge
As evening arrives, it's time for dinner.
Dining at Te Karaka is an important part of the experience: good food, thoughtfully prepared, enjoyed at a leisurely pace in the peaceful surroundings of the Lodge. Chef’s Tasting Menu is a must-try and always all the rage with our guests.
No driving home afterwards. No dishes waiting in the kitchen.
Just settle in and enjoy the evening.
After dinner — One last soak, under the skylight. The countryside feels different after dark. Away from the bright lights of Auckland, the evening becomes quieter and the sky a little more noticeable.
Sink into the warm water, look up and enjoy having nowhere you need to be tomorrow morning.
Except breakfast.
The next morning — A slow start
Forget the alarm.
Wake naturally, make your way to breakfast and take your time over coffee and something delicious.
One of the pleasures of staying in the country is simply being able to have a slow morning. No commute. No queues. No timetable. And outside, the farm has already been awake for hours.
After breakfast — Discover Te Karaka Station
Once you're properly fed and caffeinated, it's time to see the other side of Te Karaka.
Join Farm Manager James for a tour of our working sheep and beef farm. Don’t forget to check with the team ahead of time in case James is busy with other farm businesses.
Having worked on the farm for more than 20 years, James knows Te Karaka inside and out. The tour is an opportunity to get beyond the beautiful views and discover what actually goes into running a New Zealand farm.
And spring is an especially lovely time to explore the Station, with green paddocks and plenty of activity around the farm.
It's this combination of a luxury stay and a genuine working farm that makes a visit to Te Karaka a little different.
Then, back to Auckland
After the farm tour, it's time to slowly make your way back to the city.
In just one night, you've had a spa treatment, drinks in the countryside, dinner, a soak under the night sky, a leisurely breakfast and a private glimpse into life on a working New Zealand farm.
Not bad for 24 hours.
Your spring escape doesn't need to be complicated
Sometimes the best break is the simple one.
Arrive. Relax. Eat well. Sleep well. Explore the farm. Go home refreshed.
That's our idea of the perfect spring day at Te Karaka.
Did you know? We are also very close to having our own POOL HOUSE (fingers crossed before Xmas), where our guests can shower or change after enjoying our gorgeous outdoor swimming spa. But most excitingly, we will have one private day spa room! We will keep you updated on that project too!
