Let’s Celebrate Spring

Spring is one of the most beautiful times to experience rural New Zealand. The countryside turns green, lambs arrive in the paddocks, gardens come back to life and longer days make it easier to spend time outdoors.

At Te Karaka Lodge, spring is an opportunity to slow down and experience life on a working New Zealand farm — while still enjoying the comfort, food and privacy of a luxury lodge.

Located in Waikaretu, North Waikato, Te Karaka Lodge sits within a 600-hectare working sheep and beef farm, making it an easy rural escape for couples, families, groups and corporate teams looking to get away from Auckland or Hamilton.

Spring lambs and all the fresh produce

Spring is particularly suited to experiences that combine the farm, food and outdoors. Guests can build their stay around a few activities or simply enjoy having time away from the city.

One of the most distinctive experiences at Te Karaka Lodge is exploring the farm with Farm Manager James, who has worked on the property for more than 20 years.

Rather than a staged tourist attraction, this is an opportunity to see how a real New Zealand sheep and beef farm operates.

During Spring (Sept to Nov), our farm will be full of newborn lambs. Although our walking tracks will be closed to protect the lambs, you can still see them from the other side of the fence. You can book a farm tour and get closer to the animals with James in his dashing ATV.

For international visitors in particular, a farm tour offers an opportunity to experience a side of New Zealand that is not so easily accessible.

Food is also an important part of a stay at Te Karaka Lodge. The kitchen focuses on seasonal ingredients and relaxed lodge dining, with menus changing according to what is available. Chef’s Tasting menu has never ceased to wow our guests. Tell us your food allergies in advance: nuts, dairy, or gluten/Coeliac; our Chef endeavours not to disappoint.

A countryside escape does not need to be busy.

Guests can add spa treatments such as massages, facials and nail treatments to their stay, or simply spend time relaxing at the lodge and enjoying the outdoor spa.

This makes Te Karaka Lodge suitable for spring wellness weekends, couples' escapes, girls' weekends and pre-wedding gatherings as well as more activity-focused stays.

Is Te Karaka Lodge suitable for a weekend getaway from Auckland?

Yes. Te Karaka Lodge is located in Waikaretu in North Waikato, making it well suited to travellers wanting a rural getaway without travelling to the major tourist centres.

The lodge has 10 guest rooms, so it can accommodate couples and individual travellers while also working particularly well for small private groups wanting to stay together.

Unlike a conventional hotel, the experience is centred around the surrounding farm and countryside.

Guests can spend their weekend exploring the farm, enjoying seasonal meals, booking a spa treatment or creative workshop, or simply doing very little.

Who is a spring stay at Te Karaka Lodge best suited to?
